Live translation for internal communications

An all-hands has a specific failure mode: the parts that are easy to translate are the parts that matter least. The prepared presentation could have been a written update. The Q&A is what makes it a town hall — and it is usually left in the working language.

Translate the questions, not only the answers

If leadership is translated into five languages and questions must come back in English, the meeting has told everyone whose language is the real one. It also means the questions you receive are filtered by English confidence rather than by importance.

Keep the translation in the recording

For a global company, the asynchronous audience is usually larger than the live one. Microsoft's own documentation states that Teams recordings capture only the original meeting audio and do not include interpretation audio, and that translated transcripts disappear when the meeting ends. Google Meet does not translate recordings or live streams either.

If most of your company watches the next morning, that means the translation served the smaller half.

• Google Meet supports one language pair per meeting — three offices in three languages cannot use it at all
• Zoom translates to captions only, so international staff read while everyone else listens
